Pastor Laurent Mulumba
Rev. Laurent Mulumba trained at Spurgeons College in London on the B.Th course. He is an ordained minister of religion being recognized within the Baptist Union of Great Britain. Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, this pastor's son g
ave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 14. He served the Lord in the church at the feet of his father as a singer, soul winner and preacher.
In 1990 he succeeded, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to establish the Mission Church of Jesus Christ Liberator (MILIJEC) with about 500 members.
After arriving in Britain in 2002, Laurent became a member of New Park Road Baptist Church in 2006. Driven by a passion to win souls for Christ, he opened at NPR a French-speaking congregation, which brings together people who either speak the native language of French or are from French-speaking countries (Congo - Kinshasa, Cote d'Ivoire, Congo Brazzaville, etc.) or both.
Laurent was inducted as a minister of the church in September 2010 with special responsibility for the French congregation. With the departure of Simon Hudson he has now become the principle pastor for the whole church, supported by our elder, Lawrence Ovenden.
Laurent is married to Therese and they have six children.
Elder Lawrence Ovenden
Lawrence Ovenden is our Elder who with Pastor Laurent provides oversight in the fellowship. Lawrence did his theological training at the Criswell College, Dallas, Texas and Westminster Theological Seminary Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His full time paid employment is with the strategy and innovation section of a local council.
If what the Bible teaches us about God and His son is only of value on Sunday then the message of the gospel does not have the life changing power that it claims. Consequently, Lawrence has a desire to see people understand the Bible not just in the narrow context of what is thought of as “religious” but as it impacts on all of life to show that the message of Jesus Christ is not just for Sunday or when times get hard but all day, every day.
Lawrence is married with 2 children.
